We ran our second Equine Retreat for Veterans at the Live and Let Live Farm in Chichester, NH from Friday, November 13th through Monday, November 16th. The session gave the participants a chance to work with horses and, through this work, learn to better deal with issues like reintegration, anxiety, depression and PTSD. We ran another Camp Resilience Retreat from Monday, October 5th through Thursday, October 8th. The sports activities included the Aerial Treetops Adventure course at Gunstock Mountain, kayaking on the Merrymeeting River, a hike up Gunstock Mountain, water aerobics and yoga. There were also a number of resiliency workshops on topics such as Effective Praise, Adaptive Constructive Responding, “Hunting the Good Stuff”, and Avoiding Thinking Traps as well as a session on mindful eating. See pictures from this session below.

The first Camp Resilience Women’s Retreat ran from Tuesday, September 22nd to Friday, September 25th. The sports activities included the Aerial Treetops Adventure course at Gunstock Mountain, kayaking on the Merrymeeting River, a full day of equine therapy, water aerobics and yoga. The first Camp Resilience Equine Retreat for Veterans ran from Friday, June 26th to Tuesday, June 30th. It was a 4 day, 4 night experience where veterans immersed themselves in a farm environment and, through working with horses as their teachers, learned important aspects about themselves that can lead to lasting positive change. The veterans lived at the farm, camping overnight, participated in all meal preparation, including collecting firewood for the campfire. The participants were involved in all aspects of horse care and farm work. The Camp Resilience Equine Retreat for Veterans was not a horseback riding adventure, but a therapeutic psycho-social experiential experience designed to meet the needs of veterans suffering with the psychological, emotional, and physical injuries of war, while also addressing issues of reintegration. See pictures from this session below.
